My grandmother oiled her hair with olive oil.
She grew up in Italy, and it was not a routine. It was not self-care. It was just what you did. A few drops, worked in slowly, passed down without explanation because it did not need one. Her hair knew.
My mother grew up watching her. And then she became a cosmetic chemist, and spent her career understanding exactly why those rituals worked. What the scalp actually needs. Why some ingredients absorb and others just sit there.
I grew up in both worlds. I trained under her, learned to formulate the right way, and eventually made ioli myself.
