Your Hair Ritual Starts Here

Rooted in Tradition, Designed for You

New to oiling your hair? You’re in the right place. Below, you’ll find simple, step-by-step rituals to help you use ioli in a way that fits your rhythm.

Inspired by generations of Mediterranean care and crafted with intention, ioli was made to work with your hair—not against it. Whether you're here to reset your scalp, soften your strands, or create a little moment of calm, your ritual starts here.

For Healthy Hair Growth

This ritual is for anyone whose scalp feels dry, flaky, or simply in need of attention. If you’re looking to care for your roots and reconnect with your hair at its source, this one’s for you.

Use 3–4 dropperfuls of ioli per session, focusing primarily on your scalp, not your strands. Apply a small drop per section.

Tip: Warm the oil between your palms first to enhance absorption and create a calming ritual.

We recommend oiling your scalp 1-2x per month, or 1-2 times per week.

You can do it the night before washing or a few hours before a shower—it’s totally up to your rhythm.

The key is consistency—think of it like skincare, but for your scalp.

For Healthy Hair Growth + Scalp Care

Step 1: Comb through your hair to remove any knots—this will make sectioning and application way easier (and cleaner).

How many sections you create depends on your hair type and density. Thicker or curlier textures might need 6–8 sections; finer hair may only need 4. You want a clear path to your scalp in each one.

Step 2: Use the dropper to place small drops of oil as you move through your sections.

➤ Stay in a pattern or straight line to ensure even coverage across your whole head.

Important: Never squeeze an entire dropper onto one spot. A little goes a long way. Oversaturating your scalp can clog pores or make washout harder.

Step 3: After your dots are placed, take one full dropperful of ioli between your hands. Press it gently into your scalp, then begin massaging with your fingertips in slow, circular motions.

This helps boost circulation and encourages absorption.

Step 4: Gently gather your hair into a loose bun or clip it up with a claw clip.

Avoid combing or brushing your hair while the oil is on your scalp—your follicles are softened and more vulnerable when oiled, and tugging can lead to breakage or fallout.

Step 5: Leave the oil in for 30 minutes to 6 hours—whatever fits your schedule. This is your time to relax, reflect, or go about your day.

Step 6: We recommend using a clarifying or gentle shampoo to fully rinse the oil out. Depending on your hair type, you may need 1–2 rounds of shampoo.

Air dry, blow dry, or let your natural texture shine.

Repeat 2–3x per week for best results. Consistency is key—your scalp deserves as much care as your skin.

💡 Hair oiling is a centuries-old practice across Mediterranean, South Asian, and African cultures—used to nurture not just the hair, but the self. This is your moment to connect with tradition in your own way.

To Prevent Dryness & Frizz

This ritual is for dry, damaged, or chemically treated hair. Especially strands that feel brittle, frizzy, or in need of softness. If your hair craves moisture without weight, this one’s for you.

Start with 1–2 dropperfuls, warming the oil between your palms. Smooth it through the mid-lengths to ends, coating the strands gently.

➤ For thicker or more porous hair, add a little more as needed.

➤ Skip the scalp, this is all about the lengths.

Repeat 1–2x per week, or whenever your hair feels dull, dry, or in need of a refresh. If you heat-style or color often, make this part of your weekly care rhythm.

For Repairing Damage, Preventing Dryness & Strengthening Ends

Comb or brush through your hair gently to remove tangles before applying oil. This ensures an even application and prevents unnecessary pulling on your ends.

Start with 1–2 dropperfuls of ioli in your palms and rub your hands together. Work the oil through the mid-lengths and ends of your hair using a downward motion, think of it like “coating” the strands.

Avoid the scalp completely—this is all about nourishing your lengths.

➤ For thicker or extra-dry hair, you can add more oil gradually.

Twist into a loose braid, bun, or clip it up. If you’re wearing the oil for a few hours or all day, we recommend a claw clip or soft silk scrunchie.

Let the oil sit for 1–6 hours, depending on your time and hair’s needs.

➤ If your hair is bleached, chemically treated, or extra porous, give it a longer soak to help replenish moisture and elasticity.

Wash your hair as normal.

Air dry or diffuse if you love your waves and curls; blow dry if that’s your thing—this ritual supports whatever your styling preference is.

Repeat 1–2x per week for damage repair and moisture maintenance. If you heat style or color-treat regularly, it’s the best way to reset and rebuild.

💡 Frizz isn’t failure—it’s your texture saying hi.

At ioli, we embrace natural hair in all its forms. Volume is beautiful. Shine is great, but softness and strength matter more. Let your hair be what it is, just healthier.

Slicked Back & Styling

This ritual is for the ones who live in a bun, a claw clip, or a ponytail, and still want their hair to be healthy underneath it all. It’s perfect for refreshing your roots, smoothing frizz, and giving day 3–5 hair some love.

Looking put together and deeply nourished.

Use ½ to 1 full dropper, depending on your hair thickness and length.

Warm the oil in your palms, and work it from roots to ends as you slick your hair back.

Use a tiny bit more on the ends if they’re dry—this is both styling and care.

Do this whenever you’re putting your hair up, whether it's day 2 or day 6.

You can also do it on wet or dry hair depending on how you style.

It’s a quick fix and a long-term strengthening treatment when used consistently.

For Styling + Nourishing on Day 3, 4, or Whenever

This is perfect for lived-in texture or day 3+ hair. If your roots feel stiff or dry, mist with a bit of water or a leave-in to reset the surface.

Dispense into your hands, rub together to evenly distribute, and start working the oil from your hairline back.

Focus on smoothing the top layer and applying oil to the ends—that’s where the hydration counts the most.

Use a boar-bristle brush or your fingers to sculpt your style. Some favorite go-to’s:

Claw clip twist — sleek and effortless

Low bun — center or side part for a soft 90s feel

High pony — with face-framing tendrils or full slick-back for a cleaner look

Braided bun — for extra length and hold

It’s perfect when you’re short on time, don’t feel like washing, or want to lean into a sleek style without sacrificing the health of your strands.

Styling doesn’t have to mean compromising. At ioli, we believe hair should look good and feel better. Even your “lazy day” can be a care day.

Every Day Shine & Finish

This ritual is for those who want a little polish, without heaviness.

Whether you're air drying, heat styling, or living somewhere in between, ioli brings lightweight softness, frizz control, and a natural glow.

Use 1–3 drops, adjusting for your hair’s texture and density.

Warm the oil between your palms until you feel a light sheen, then gently smooth it through dry or damp hair, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends.

More isn’t better here—you're sealing the surface, not soaking it.

Apply daily, after styling, or anytime your hair needs a refresh.

For Everyday Shine, Softness & Frizz Control

1. Prep

Rub ioli between your palms to activate the oils into a fine, weightless finish.

2. Smooth

Gently scrunch into your ends or glide through mid-lengths to soften and tame flyaways.

3. Refresh as Needed

Apply after a blowout, between wash days, or to revive slept-on styles.

ioli also layers beautifully—blend a few drops into your favorite leave-in, cream, or gel for extra hydration and shine.

💡 Shine doesn’t have to come from silicones or serums. True gloss starts with softness, intention, and a few thoughtful drops.
